Current Collaborative projects:
Neighborhood NestWatch
This Smithsonian Project is coming to Raleigh in Spring 2015! A primary goal of Neighborhood NestWatch is to understand how migratory birds respond to urbanization. Residents help scientists study migratory birds in their back yards by hosting in-person visits that turn backyards into study sites and collecting data when scientists are at other homes.
Past Collaborative projects:
Golondrinas de las Americas
![]() The Golondrinas network of ornithologists study swallows throughout the Western Hemisphere
|
NestWatch
![]() Volunteer nest monitors contribute data to NestWatch, a citizen science project accepting nesting observations on all birds in the United States and Canada.

Conservation Recreation

In collaboration with the Human Dimensions Research Unit in the Natural Resources Dept at Cornell University, we are studying bird watching and hunting, sense of place, and conservation.
The House Sparrow Project
With Mark Hauber at Hunter College, we are launching a citizen science experiment with house sparrows.
|
The Barn Swallow Project
Participants submit observations of nesting Barn Swallows to NestWatch and measure skyglow according to Globe at Night
|
Loud & Bright
Students at UCLA's Institute for Environment and Sustainability have created citizen science methods to measure noise and light. Check out the pilot project website.
